Gachot, New York: Collaborative, Thoughtful, Fun.

Gachot was founded as a collaborative environment with service as its core principle. The Gachot team brings together diverse skill sets in real estate development, art direction and interior design to overcome the constraints of physical space and deliver thoughtful, project-specific products. Every project is treated as a unique expression rather than the vehicle for a rigid aesthetic. 

“We’re really not out there to throw our DNA all over the place,” says Co-Founder Christine Gachot. “We recognise that the end goal is different with each project. We work together with other people in the industry so it’s much more of a collaborative process and we have a great love for the business end.” 

The interior is set up as an open studio forum in which people talk freely amongst one another. The open-plan physicality of the space relates to the open nature of the team, which in turn engenders creative ideas.

The core group has known each other for many years, so there is a shorthand in communication which shows in the creative style and nature of the firm while flowers and candles create a nurturing environment.

There is a radical sense of place with a deep connection to the neighbourhood. “We’ve all been going to Dean & Deluca for twenty years. There’s a local florist that does the flowers for our studio. There’s a bookstore, McNally Jackson in Soho, that we work closely with,” says Gachot.

That sense of belonging is returned to the community in spades through altruistic endeavours that include the holiday party that revolved around doing a coat drive for the local elementary school, or getting involved in a local food pantry before Thanksgiving.

“We’re really out to create a nice internal environment and community for everybody that’s here,” explains Gachot, whose raw talent attracts high-profile clients like Tumblr Founder David Karp and fashion designer Marc Jacobs.
