How to Showcase Your Work & Make a Great First Impression
Have you checked out our Instagram @BespokeCareers lately? Every week we post #TuesdayTips – where our consultants share their knowledge on everything from interviews & CVs, to portfolios & video calls.
Here are some of our top portfolio tips:
- Start strong. Always put your professional work samples at the front.
- Make your portfolio a thoughtful curation. Don’t include everything you’ve ever worked on.
- Keep it all on a white background and use high resolution, color photos. You can compress images to keep your file size down.
- Label everything clearly and don’t overcomplicate the design. Sometimes less is more.
- Showcase projects that best represent your style and level of expertise.
- Clarify your role on each project and note which phase(s) you worked on.
- Keep your portfolio up-to-date with projects from the last 5-10 years. Lead with your best work and show your range.
- Introduce every project with a stunning image. It keeps the viewer interested and acts as a natural break.
- Tell a story. Include a variety of images (renders, sketches, documentation etc) to illustrate the full design process.
- Remember to label everything clearly. Make a format and stick to it.
- Portfolios should be easy to send. Keep the file size to 10MB max.
- Find an architecture or design publication that resonates with you and use that for inspiration.
