CEO Lindsay Urquhart takes part in the UABBHK Curatorial Conversation workshop
On 16th July 2020, Bespoke Careers CEO Lindsay Urquhart, took part in the Hong Kong Biennale of Urbanism\ Architecture online workshop ‘Curatorial Conversation:: Diversity, Equality and Inclusion.
Lindsay was joined by fellow panelists Joanna Bacon (Managing Partner at Allies and Morrison), Dr Eunice Seng and Javian Tang. The panel's discussion referenced the New York Times headline "Why are Women-Led Nations Doing Better with Covid-19' and was moderated by biennale co-curator Sarah Mui.
The group shared their insights into how diversity can create a healthy structure and environment for sustainable development. They emphasised that it's not only about gender equality, but also about creating a cross-cultural environment and inclusive working model. The group looked at how the architecture and design industry has transformed over the past decades and addressed the challenges that continue to interfere with building a more inclusive industry. Lindsay discussed some steps that practices can take when recruiting, such as using inclusive language, ensuring a 50/50 gender split interview panel and having unconscious bias training for your team. The conversation concluded with Joanna discussing the gender pay gap guidance report that she created alongside the RIBA.
