Tanner Kibble Denton Architects, Sydney: Dedicated, Passionate, Collaborative.

“We are well settled in Sydney,” says Managing Director, Alex Kibble. TKD Architects has an office in Surry Hills, just on the edge of the city’s central business district. Its 70-strong team of architects and interior designers works from a 1920s warehouse which has a raw industrial aesthetic of polished concrete floors, white painted walls and exposed black-painted services. 

“We work predominantly in Sydney and Brisbane with work in regional New South Wales,” Kibble continues. “We value design very highly. We strive to keep it as an important goal in everything we do – we always maintain our design-focused outlook that keeps us striving for quality.” From the Sydney office, TKD Architects work on commercial schemes, education, private houses, interior design and heritage architecture. All the staff sit together on one floor and there is a collaborative atmosphere. 

“We place great emphasis on working together. I believe in empowering people to make decisions and take responsibility for their own work. TKD is not overly directed from the top,” comments Kibble.

“We have created a culture here of independence and ownership. We have so many talented individuals and they are respectful of each other’s contributions. This drives creativity and you can sense the pride as outcomes are revealed. We support, encourage and inspire one another.” 

The office has a culture where the younger staff organise groups and events, from taking part in fun runs to a book club, creating an all-inclusive atmosphere. 

“We offer everyone experience with great diversity. A student might find themselves working on a school building or a house, and in doing so, they will learn an incredible amount about architecture and the vital role the architect plays,” adds Kibble.
