HDR, Sydney: Diverse, Passionate, Driven.
The Culture of Practice
As part of a global network of 10,000+ employees, HDR Sydney employs 120 staff who work on a broad mix of sectors and projects across the world. The practice moved into its current Sydney office in 2003. It is a building which HDR originally designed as a core and shell office building in the eighties and it has reinvigorated the space with the aim of creating a studio which reflects the firm’s ways of working, values and corporate culture.
“Our space embodies our core values as an organisation promoting teamwork, creativity, a sense of family and environmental sustainability,” says Lili Sinden, National Director of People and Culture. The practice has a focus on the well-being of its staff and this forms a significant part of its culture. “We incorporate a Wellness Program into our staff’s busy schedules resulting in the creation of opportunities for our teams to build relations across all sectors,” adds Sinden.
This culture of wellness extends beyond the practice to outreach with local charities. HDR works closely with the Property Industry Foundation (PIF) to address youth homelessness through a number of events and social initiatives. The practice is one which is growing – both in terms of the size of the office and the scale of its projects.
“This is probably the best time to join HDR as it evolves into a truly unique business that values its people and culture even more. We are looking at the bigger picture of career development and local and global opportunities for growth, with people at the centre of everything we do,” concludes Sinden.
